Going electric - considerations for
fleet managers

Posted: 20 January 2023

Switching to an electric fleet can bring considerable benefits to an organisation, its employees, customers, and the environment. But, as it’s a significant transition, there are plenty of considerations for fleet managers.

As well as beating the 2030 ban on sales of new petrol and diesel cars and vans, going electric can send out a positive environmental message to employees and customers. There are also financial benefits for employers, with lower running costs plus plenty of incentives to encourage take-up.

Attractive tax breaks also mean that electric vehicles are popular among employees, with the savings they can make on fuel adding to their appeal.

Given these benefits, demand for electric vehicles is strong. The UK’s electric vehicle market is growing fast. The one millionth plug-in electric vehicle was registered in September 2022, according to the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders1, with almost a quarter of these vehicles registered in that year alone. Demand also meant that they accounted for one in five of cars registered in September 2022 – up from one in six in 20212.

But before joining the thousands enjoying the benefits of driving electric, fleet managers should ensure they are ready for the switch.
