Plant or machinery belonging to contractors (this doesnt include sub contractors) or that is hired is damaged.
Contract works are affected by an unexpected incident, such as flooding or vandalism.
Or if materials or tools are stolen from a work site.

I’m planning a construction project – at what point do I need to speak to my broker?

It's best to discuss what insurance needs to be put in place to protect your project well in advance of the start of any site preparation works

Does construction insurance include protection against financial losses and extra expenses if there are delays during the project? For instance, if works are delayed due to an accident, extreme weather conditions or defects that may be found during the project.

It's possible to get insurance for delays in start up, following loss or damage to the site. You should make sure to speak to your broker about any concerns you may have about loss of revenue or additional costs that could occur.

Are temporary structures e.g. temporary access roads protected in the same way as the buildings we’re working on are?

Temporary access roads may be included in the definition of contract works (i.e. work in progress), but make sure you discuss this with your broker as it might be necessary to make amendments.
