Types of pet insurance

There are different types of pet insurance, and each provides a different level of cover.

Lifetime pet insurance

Lifetime pet insurance policies tend to be the most comprehensive policy types. They are designed to cover the costs of treatment for continuous conditions, such as arthritis or diabetes, as well as other unexpected costs like injuries or tests.

Time-limited pet insurance

This type of cover tends to be slightly cheaper than Lifetime pet insurance but won’t allow you to claim for continuous conditions beyond a policy year. After a year, the condition is excluded from the policy, meaning you won’t be able to claim for it again.

Maximum benefit pet insurance

Maximum benefit pet insurance, also known as “money-limited” pet insurance, allows you to claim against your policy up to a set amount of money for each condition. Similarly to time-limited policies, after the limit has been reached the condition tends to be excluded from the policy, meaning you won’t be able to claim for it again.

Accident-only pet insurance

Accident-only pet insurance only provides cover for accidents, such as your pet getting injured or eating something they shouldn’t. On an accident-only policy, your pet won’t be covered for any symptoms caused by illness.
