Do you need to make a car insurance claim now?

First things first, make sure you and your passengers are safe - your claim doesn't need to be reported to us immediately.

If you have a car accident, you have to report it to the police within 24 hours of the incident if:

  • The other driver(s) left the scene without providing their details.
  • You suspect the other driver(s) may have caused intentional damage.
  • You think the other driver(s) could be uninsured.
  • You have reason to believe the other driver(s) is under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
  • Someone was injured.
  • An animal in another vehicle or in the road is injured.
  • Someone else's property was damaged.
  • A bollard, street lamp or other item of street furniture is damaged.

Once you're safe and able to, please remember to let us know about the incident too.

You can give our claims team a call on on 0330 678 5557 at any time.

Calls will be recorded. For Text Phone, first dial 18008.

  •  Are you the policyholder or a named driver on the policy?

  • Is the incident covered under the terms and conditions of the policy?

  • Was the policy active when the incident took place?
  • Your number plate or policy number and any documents.
  • Details of the incident (date, time, location).
  • Details of any injuries.
  • Names and contact details of the other driver(s) and any witnesses.
  • Photos of any damage (if applicable).
  • Police reference (if applicable).

When you’re ready and you’ve made your claim, here’s what happens next:

  • We’ll ask you to provide any relevant documents.
  • We’ll assess and review your claim.
  • Once approved, we’ll be in touch about your car repairs or payout.

Yes. We need all information about a driver's claims history, although this won't be taken into consideration on your policy until the next renewal.

If you don't keep your claims information up to date, it could result in your policy being cancelled.

We'll reimburse your excess as the third party's insurer accepts responsibility for the incident. This might not always be possible or could take time.

For example, the other driver could deny causing the accident, or their insurer might not reply to us straight away.

We'll always keep you updated with the latest information.

You'll have 60 days from the date the write-off is confirmed to decide whether to transfer your cover to a different car.

If you don't want to transfer your cover, you'll need to cancel your policy otherwise the cover and any payments will continue.

If you're in a hire car when your policy ends, you'll need to give the hire car back.

New Car Replacement is included as standard on our Allianz and Allianz Silver cover levels.

We'll look to replace your car with a new one if it's involved in a claim and written off, as long as the car is less than a year old and you or your partner are the first and only registered keeper. The replacement vehicle will be of the same or similar specification. You'll find all the details in your Document of Insurance in your online account.

New Car Replacement is not provided on Allianz Essentials cover level.
