The inspections behind the experience: Supporting safe events across the UK

In the UK, we're fortunate to host a huge variety of major events throughout the summer months, from international football fixtures and tennis tournaments to open-air concerts and festivals. While the crowds enjoy the moment, our work takes place behind the scenes, helping ensure the infrastructure that supports these events is operating safely and reliably.

Engineer surveyors play an important part in helping venues create environments where people can come together with confidence.

Modern stadiums are complex environments, filled with equipment that helps venues operate smoothly during large events. On event days, lifts move spectators between levels, access platforms support last minute checks on lighting and displays, and lifting equipment enables teams to prepare the venue quickly and efficiently.

Engineering inspections are carried out on these systems, helping to assess whether they’re compliant with regulations such as the Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations (LOLER) and the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations (PUWER) for continued use.

By examining safety-critical components, identifying wear or potential faults and providing clear reports, we help venue operators address issues early, before they disrupt an event or increase risk. The aim is always preventative, identifying issues early so that equipment can continue to operate safely for staff, contractors and spectators.

Summer brings a surge of activity for music venues and outdoor event spaces. Large concerts, touring productions and festivals often require temporary structures and complex installations.

Stages, lighting rigs, sound systems and giant video screens are frequently installed using cranes, hoists and lifting accessories. These systems are often assembled to tight timescales, creating a need to balance speed with safety.

Through careful inspection of lifting equipment and mechanical systems, engineer surveyors help event organisers and contractors confirm that the equipment being used to build these experiences is installed correctly and running safely. This includes examining items such as hoists, lifting accessories and access equipment used to assemble staging or support broadcasting equipment.

While audiences see the finished stage or the dramatic lighting display, we focus on the safety of the machinery and equipment that made it possible.

Many of the machines used to build and support large events do not stay in one place for long. Mobile cranes, lifting equipment and access platforms are often moved between stadiums, arenas and event sites across the country as tours and events travel from location to location.

When equipment is constantly on the move, inspections and records often move with it. It’s crucial to support customers by managing these assets wherever they are operating, providing access to inspection reports and documentation so equipment can continue to be used with confidence.

By working closely with operators and contractors, we help ensure that equipment remains compliant and properly examined, even as it travels between venues and projects throughout the UK.

Concert venue

For most visitors, the magic of an event lies in the experience, the excitement of a goal, the energy of a live performance or the shared atmosphere of a crowd enjoying something special together.

Our contribution happens quietly in the background. By helping organisations monitor the safety and condition of their equipment, we support the people responsible for delivering those experiences. Whether it’s passenger lifts, walkways or escalators, lighting arrays and camera booms, we 're here to help with our engineering inspections.

If it’s a stadium hosting a major sporting fixture, or a concert venue welcoming thousands of music fans, our focus remains the same. We work alongside venues, organisers and contractors to help make sure that the equipment supporting these events is inspected, compliant and safe to operate.

When everything runs smoothly, the engineering inspections behind the scenes often go unnoticed. That’s exactly how it should be - because when safety is well managed, the focus stays on the experience.

Supporting the safe operation and regulatory compliance of work equipment, plant and machinery, we’re one of the UK’s largest providers of engineering inspection services.

Guided by our commitment to ‘Engineering Excellence’, we focus on helping businesses manage their responsibilities under relevant regulations and industry standards. Our team of qualified engineer surveyors, supported by established partnerships, works to deliver inspection services aligned to operational needs and equipment requirements.
