What is what3words and how do I use it?

The what3words app divides the world into 3-metre squares and gives you a unique combination of three words, wherever you are.

We’ll ask you to use what3words if you've broken down so we can find you easily and help you on your way.

The words are easy to say and share, for example – rest.easy.now – and they're just as accurate as GPS coordinates.

Once you've downloaded the app, you don't even need mobile data or Wi-Fi to use it!

How do I add breakdown cover to my policy?

Adding breakdown

Here's how to add breakdown to your policy

1. Log in to your Allianz account

2. Select 'Your car, Make changes'

3. Select 'Edit car and cover'

4. Select 'Breakdown cover'

5. Under 'Do you want to add breakdown cover?' select 'Yes, please'

6. Click 'Next' and enter your start date for the changes to take place

What should I do if my car breaks down?

We know it sounds annoying, but really, just stay calm – it happens a lot and help will be on the way shortly. Here’s a little checklist to help keep you, and everyone else on the road, safe:

Turn your hazards on

Wear a hi-vis if you have one in the car

Make sure you're safely off the road

Walk your warning triangle about 60 paces behind your vehicle (unless you're on the motorway

Exit the car through the left-hand door

If it's dark outside or visibility is poor, keep your sidelights switched on

Only after all this should you call your breakdown service
