Saracens vs London Welsh 03.03.13

Posted on: 09 September 2014

Saracens leapfrogged rivals Harlequins into top spot of the Premiership on Sunday with a comfortable bonus point win over lowly London Welsh at Allianz Park.

An enthusiastic home crowd spurred on The Men in Black, who now sit four points clear at the summit, after second half tries from Joel Tomkins, Will Fraser and David Strettle earned Sarries a 35-14 victory.

A stubborn first half performance from the visitors kept them in it at the break, but The Exiles had no answer to Saracens powerful pack in the second half, as Will Fraser’s ballast up front and maestro Charlie Hodgson’s slick execution behind the scrum proved too strong.

Saracens Director of Rugby Mark McCall was pleased to get the maximum points and singled out in-form winger, David Strettle, for particular praise. He said: “We weren’t as good as we could have been, especially in the first half, but we were glad to come away with the five points that we wanted.

“I think David’s playing the best he’s played for the last three seasons. He had a brilliant game out there again today. He obviously scored a try but was instrumental in both the other tries as well.”
