We hope you’ll always tell us first if something’s not right, but here’s what to expect if you do decide to cancel your insurance with us.

If you want to cancel within 14 days

We give everyone who buys insurance with us a chance to change their mind. You can cancel your policy within 14 days of the date you got it – just call us on 0344 2090 841. We’re open 8am to 6pm Monday to Friday.

If you cancel your insurance within 14 days you’ll be refunded the amount you paid for your policy, minus the cost for the days you’ve been insured.

If you’ve had to claim for a total loss – like if your car’s a write-off – then you might have to pay your total premium for the year, which means you won’t get a refund.

You can also cancel any optional extras you’ve added to your insurance within 14 days of getting your policy (or an updated policy if you added them later). You’ll get a full refund for the extras unless you need to claim for a total loss – then you might still have to pay for the year.

If you cancel your insurance after 14 days

If you cancel your insurance after 14 days, we’ll pay you back for the time left on your policy if you haven’t made any claims. We can’t give you a refund if you’ve made a claim on your insurance though. There may be a cancellation charge of £50 plus insurance premium tax.

If you cancel your main cover, any optional extras you’ve added – like legal expenses or breakdown cover – will be cancelled at the same time.

If we cancel your insurance

If we decide to cancel your insurance for any reason, we’ll give you seven days’ notice. You’ll get a refund for the time left on your insurance, unless you’ve already made a claim.

There might be a cancellation charge of £50 plus insurance premium tax.

If you cancel your optional extras after 14 days

You can cancel one or more of your optional extras at any time, without cancelling the rest of your insurance. There’s no admin fee for cancelling any of your optional extras.

If you’ve already paid for the year, we’ll refund you for the time left, as long as you added the extra at the start of your insurance or at renewal, and you haven’t made a claim on it.

If you pay by monthly Direct Debit, we’ll adjust your payments for the time left on your insurance unless you’ve made a claim.

If we cancel your optional extras

If we decide to cancel any of your optional extras, we’ll let you know seven days before. You’ll get a refund for the time left on your insurance, unless you’ve already made a claim.

Things to remember if you do cancel

If you cancel your insurance with us, it means you’ll be letting go of all the cover we include as standard as well as any optional extras you added to your policy.

If you’ve got home insurance

If you decide to cancel your home insurance with us before you’ve arranged other cover, you might find you can’t get insured anywhere else. This could happen if your home’s been damaged by something like flooding or subsidence (when unstable ground causes damage when it moves).

If you’ve got car insurance

If you cancel your car insurance with us before getting other insurance in place, you won’t be insured to drive legally on UK roads. It’s really important to organise new cover before cancelling any insurance policy.

If you don’t want to renew your insurance

When your insurance policy’s end date comes around, we’ll renew it for you automatically. We’ll get in touch when it’s due for renewal and give you all the price and policy details for the next year.

If you decide you don’t want to renew your insurance with us, just let us know when we get in touch before your renewal date. Remember to arrange new cover – assuming you need it – before your insurance with us comes to an end.

If we decide not to renew your insurance

If something’s changed and we decide not to renew your insurance, we’ll always let you know in writing before your renewal date.
