The Jubilee Sailing Trust is a charity that promotes the integration of people of all physical abilities through the challenge of tall ship sailing.
As part of the Allianz Global Diversity initiative, Allianz SE offers ‘once in a lifetime’ opportunities to all Allianz employees to sail with the Jubilee Sailing Trust (JST). Each year, 5 places are available to Allianz Insurance employees.
Life onboard
There are no passengers during the Voyage to Development - everyone is an active member of the crew. Life on a tall ship is about working with people’s strengths. Confidence is built as crew members achieve things together they never dreamed possible. During the voyage, challenging tasks will be set to improve team-working skills, as well as individual leadership and communication skills.
Every crew member will help with setting the sails, managing the crew and even navigating the ship. Everyone is buddied with a fellow crew member to work alongside throughout the voyage. Together, crew members will discover each other's strengths, weaknesses and unique skills.
Crew members are grouped into four watches, each watch taking turns throughout the day and night to be responsible for the ship's progress.
During the seven days onboard the tall ship, you will work as a member of a mixed physical ability crew experiencing teamwork and developing new friendships.
You will be guided on the voyage by a professional Watch Leader, who will assist you throughout your adventure and assess you on the new skills you acquire.
You will also help maintain the ship. The ironically named 'Happy Hour' is an hour spent cleaning the boat from top to bottom. You may also be called upon to help out in the ship's kitchen, Mess Duty, preparing meals for the crew.
On returning to dry land, those on the voyage will have gained a whole new outlook on life and a greater understanding of their own abilities and the needs of others
