Absolute energy consumption remained similar to 2008, but this actually amounts to a reduction of 5.5% per employee.

Most of this reduction in energy use per employee was achieved by changing the way our London office is heated. The heating units there are now fuelled by gas, instead of electricity, which provides greater efficiency; consequently, gas consumption has increased by 16% per employee.

To improve the efficiency of the gas supply feeding the boilers, we installed electro/mechanical equipment at our Guildford Head Office in 2009 which we expect will improve efficiency by 5%.

We will fit automatic electricity and gas readers in 2010. The readers will provide the opportunity to capture, store and retrieve data to improve budget forecasts and plan carbon reductions within our premises.
