IT Year Internship Opportunities

The first thing to say is that it’s not an IT internship exclusively for IT people. We have a number of internship positions within the department, catering for those thinking about a career in business analysis, project management, or statistical analysis; as well as the opportunity for the more technically-gifted IT undergraduate too. We are looking for people who are proactive and self-motivated, adaptable and analytical; an interest in areas such as Business, I.T. or Mathematics can provide the highly versatile skills to make a difference in a company as fast moving as Allianz.

Our IT internship scheme has been tailored to maximize opportunities for you and to help make the most of your year in industry. By fully integrating you into the IT team, it will provide many opportunities to add value to the company through the work that you deliver, but will also require determination and hard work. There is also the advantage of gaining experience working for a multinational insurance company. There are also tasks that involve working alongside your fellow interns and those on the graduate schemes as well as your normal responsibilities.

• Min 300 UCAS points (excl. AS Levels & General Studies)

• GCSE Maths B

• On track for min 2:1 degree
• Good level of numerical ability
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office

IT Technical Placement

In Web development, we are in the leading edge of innovation, and there is a lot of support for new ideas involving emerging technologies. While this was primarily a Project support role, in the first 3 months of being here, I have been involved in web design, research on new technologies, and have even been developing android apps! The opportunities for a technically minded student are endless, and all you really need is enthusiasm and a willingness to learn. All in all, I couldn’t imagine a better placement.

IT Retail PMO Analyst

IT Retail has a number of trading divisions that all deliver projects under the same framework. As a PMO analyst I have gained a working knowledge of these projects and the methodology and tools that they use. I use this information to produce monthly reports which analyse various aspects of their delivery and content. These reports are then presented in senior management meetings. I have had the opportunity to be heavily involved in the recruitment process for the following year’s intake, giving me invaluable experience for both CV writing and knowledge of the interview process. This placement role has the benefit of being given responsibility in a workplace and learning how to communicate within it effectively, I also get to work with senior managers on a daily basis. I am enjoying this placement as it gives me an overview of how a large successful IT department operates and a taste of all the aspects, such as recruitment and project management, within the department.

IT Commercial Lines PMO

IT Commercial lines deal with the software development within Allianz. There are numerous projects that are all diverse, involving different resources and planning. Working as a portfolio management office within this department has improved my knowledge of software development and project management. I have been involved in resource allocations to projects and frequent communication with our development team in India. There are also a number of other tasks that are aligned for placement students. Portfolio management gives you an overall insight into the department and for me this provides knowledge that could be beneficial in the future. Most importantly the people I work with are positive and supportive. It’s a very professional and comfortable working environment.
